MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

Dave Maksymiu- Senior Instructor

Dave has spent a lifetime developing his craft. Here in Rochester, Dave has been coaching, teaching and doing skill and skating development for 25 years. Personally he has taught more than 40,000 private lessons and has worked with hundreds of thousands of hockey players of all ages.

Dave is a USA Hockey Level 5 Master certified coach. He is a USA Hockey Select Festival Head Coach and Goaltending Coach. Also, he has had the opportunity to be a speaker at several USA Hockey Coaching Certification seminars from Level 1 to Level 4. In his 25 years in Rochester, Dave has coached well over 40 teams from Mite to Junior A and college. Throughout his playing and coaching life, Dave has won 6 State Championships and 3 National Championships. Dave played youth hockey in Michigan culminating with a National Championship with the Little Caesats hockey program as a midget. He went on to play D1, D3, and 2 seasons of professional hockey in the minor pro leagues.

Tom McDonald- Senior Instructor

Tom played youth hockey growing up in Schenectady, NY and went on to play hockey at SUNY Canton from 1990-92. In 1992, he was honored to be a member of Canton's 14th National Championship team. From there, Tom played at SUNY Brockport in 1993. His coaching career started in 1998 at Penfield High School and he coached 7 seasons for them. Next, Tom coached juniors for 11 years and while coaching he also taught private and group lessons for 10 years. Hockey is and always be a big part of Tom's life.

Jordan Taft

Jordan is currently enrolled at St. John Fisher College in the Business Management program. Along with studying at SJFC, he plays for the schools club hockey team. In 2014 Jordan graduated from Canandaigua Academy after play 4 years on the varisty team. Jordan is hoping to pursue a Business degree and remain involved in hockey any way he can.

Cameron Weisbeck

Cam is a Rochester, NY native. He is a 24 year old who has played hockey all his life and learned to skate at just 15 months old. In the past, Cameron has played AAA hockey for Monroe County, Perinton, and Rochester Youth before playing four years of varsity hockey for Irondequoit High School. He was recruited to play D3 for Long Island Univeristy but chose to stay closer to home and follow in his father's foorstops at the Univeristy at Buffalo. His father is Kent Weisback of the Rochester Americans and Cam grew up loving the game from day 1. 

Cam has experience practicing with the Rochester Americans on multiple occassions, traveled on road trips, prepared the locker room over the past 20 years. Cam also has experience studying video and recording stats for player analysis between periods. Hockey is his passion without a doubt, he was bored and raised in it.

Jake O'Donnell

Jake is currently enrolled at St. John Fisher College and will be receiving a degree in corporate finance in the spring of 2018. He is a graduate of West Genesee High School, where he played three years of varsity hockey, winning a Section 3 championship each year. One of those years his team made it to the state final four appearance. Currently, Jake is the Co-President of the St. John Fisher Club Hockey team and was a member of the 2015 NCHA National Championship winning team at St. John Fisher.

Mikaela Thompson- Goalie instructor

Mikaela has been playing hockey since the age of 4 and has been involved ever since. Growing up, she played for the Buffalo Bisons and the Rochester Edge. While on those teams, she has won 2 State Championships and was selected for the USA Hockey Festival. Along with playing with the girls, Mikaela played in net for her boys high school varsity team, Webster Schroeder for 3 years. Mikaela continued her hockey career at St. Lawrence Univeristy playing Division I Women's ice hockey. In the spring of 2016, Mikaela graduated with a double major in economics and environmental studies, with a minor in sports studies and exercise science.
